For well over a century, women and those who support them have walked together in demonstrations for progress, proudly voicing messages of optimism, empowerment, and equality emblazoned on the signs they carry. On view at New-York Historical through Women’s History Month, the special display and multimedia installation Signs of Progress explores the artistic expression and inspiring messages on original signs preserved from the 2019 Women’s March in Washington D.C. Custom posters inspired by Jane Walker by Johnnie Walker and its non-profit partners Monumental Women and She Should Run are also highlighted in the exhibit. The commissioned designs—by graphic artists Monica Ahanonu, Libby VanderPloeg, Ali Macdonald, Edward Ubiera, Laurène Boglio, Grace Miceli, William de Lannoy, Bari Schechter, and Laura Zalewski—celebrate all those who walk together on the shared journey towards women’s progress.
