Bronze struck medal with obverse depicting Christopher Columbus stepping onto shore in the New World; inscription to right of image: "PLVS/VLTRACHRISTOPHER/COLVMBVS/OCT.XII/MCCCCXCII." Reverse bears inscription within raised central panel surrounded by allegorical figures, torches, and image of ship: "WORLD'S.COLUMBIAN.EXPOSITION/IN.COMMEMORATION.OF.THE/FOUR.HUNDREDTH.ANVERSARY/OF.THE.LANDING.OF.COLUMBUS/.MDCCCXCII . MDCCCXCIII./TO Wm. S. KENDALL." Medal set into square aluminum fitted presentation case with dark blue silk velvet interior.
