This study of a small house in a winter setting is a detail from Miller's larger oil of the Erie Canal at Little Falls, painted in 1884 from an earlier 1849 study, also in the Society's collection (1949.4). It was probably intended for the 1,000 Gems of American landscape. It has been cut down and framed.
