The foreground table holds artist's brushes and miscellaneous other supplies, while in the background along the wall on the right are stacked upright canvases. Through the window the artist's studio look at typical New York apartment buildings, characteristic of the upper 60s & lower 70s on the extreme west side of town.
Ms. Foner's painting documents what is clearly the studio of a New York City artist, which would enable the Society to begin developing a subgroup of canvases related to the rich art life of the City. Stylistically, the work relates to the generation of artists who found their path between Social Realism and abstract expressionism, albeit by one who did not receive much acclaim in her active professional life, but who nonetheless has produced a large and very creditable ouevre.
