Description:
Walrus tusk carved engraved figure of a snake restrained by hand; Fame among scrolled floral ornament; Liberty holding a U.S. flag and eagle; cartouche engraved on obverse with inscription; hole bored through tip with green silk.
Gallery Label:
This walrus tusk belonged to John Lord (Aug. 21, 1789-July 4, 1829). By 1828, he was a gunner on the U.S. Frigate Constitution. At the time of his death, he was stationed at the Boston Naval Yard.
