Wood cane with twisted shaft, bone knob handle, and metal ferrule; shaft intricately carved with fish, leaves, and four fingers.
According to accession records, the bone handle of this cane was carved by a Mandan Native American. The late John B. Whetten obtained it from this Mandan individual a short time before the destruction of the Mandan Tribe by small pox.
