Description:
Black wool and silk Naval officer's dress 4-pocket waistcoat with lapels (no collar), front made of black wool, 4 buttons at the stomach; reverse made of black satin with 2 straps at the waist which buckle at the center to rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; lined with white twill-weave silk.
Gallery Label:
This waistcoat was worn by Naval Chief-Engineer William Leonard Nicoll (1842-1887). The Society also owns the other pieces of this uniform, as well as other uniform articles worn by Nicoll.
