Description:
Dark blue wool baggy trousers, part of a 9th Volunteers of New York Zouave uniform; 5 buttonn fly, pleats beneath waistband at the front, vertical slit pockets at the side seams, red piping around the pockets; 2 straps at the small of the back which fasten at the center to rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; waist lined with white cotton.

According to military expert William Brown, these trousers are part of a uniform worn by a member of 9th Volunteers of New York, also known as "Hawkins' Zouaves."
