Black clay pipe with short, bulbous stem and bowl in the form of a man's face, and lip in the form of a Zouave soldier's fez cap.
Gallery Label:
This pipe was made by Private Edward Hoffman of the 5th NY Infantry (Duryee's Zouaves) during the winter of 1861-1862, when the regiment was stationed at Fort Federal Hill in Baltimore, Maryland.
