Description:
White tin-glazed earthenware tile with painted polychrome decoration; red earthenware body with white glaze with pin pricks in upper left and lower right corners; diamond-shaped frame with sawtooth border containing flower with two drooping buds (a double snake's head) in center with fleur-de-lis corner designs.
Gallery Label:
The flower depicted here is a snake's head, or "Fritillaria meleagris," which was brought to Europe at the end of the 16th century from Turkey.
