Description:
Bronze medal struck for the American Numismatic Society and The New-York Historical Society to commemorate the purchase of Manhattan Island;obverse depicts two allegorical figures representing the intellectual and commercial progress of Manhattan, with the skyline in the distance and legend "NEW YORK CITY 1926"; reverse depicts group of Indians bartering with the Governor; in the background are sails and part of the hull of a Dutch ship; the whole surrounded by a string of wampum, with legend "1626" and in exergue "MANHATTAN".
