Blue-gray heavy wool artillery militia single-breasted tailcoat with shoulder wings; 1 1/4" closed stand-up collar with gilt lace trim, 2 sets hooks and eyes at the throat; 10 horizontal rows of black lace across the front connecting 3 vertical rows of 10 buttons; loops on the shoulders to attach shoulder wings; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 4 buttons against gilt lacing; 4 panels at the back of the bodice with 2 buttons near the center of the waistline, false gilt lacing pocket flaps on the tails, shell and flame artillery insignia at the bottom of each tail; coat lined with thie linen, slightlly papped and quilted at the breast and across the shoulders, tails lined with dark green silk, left tail with vertical slit interior pocket lined with silk and linen; all buttons cast with an eagle holding a shield in its beak, flying above a banner reading "N.Y.S.A." and with "EXCELSIOR / NATIONAL GUARD" around the outer edge; wings are of dark blue wool felt, trimmed with white worsted wool fringe, buttons at the ends of the boards, reverse lined with silk, with metal hooks at the button ends.
