Pair of silver tablespoons with downturned pointed handles with bright-cut decoration; each handle engraved, "JEB" in script; underside of handle a. engraved, "MAB/ 1871" in script; underside of handle b. engraved, "Elizabeth L. Partridge" in script; pointed oval bowls with broad drops and foliate scroll decoration; maker's marks stamped on the undersides of the stems.
Gallery Label: 
Emily Jane Beals (1831-1907), whose initials are engraved on the handles of these tablespoons, was the daughter of William Beals (1785-1870) and the donor's great-aunt. She recieved these spoons from her aunt Elizabeth Lane Partridge (1755-1809), who was probably their original owner, on the occassion of her marriage to Edward C. Mitchell, January 26, 1854. Emily gave them to Marie Antoinette Baker on the occasion of her marriage to Fellows Davis on October 17, 1871.
