Sword with curved, single-edged steel blade with broad fuller; steel stirrup hilt with reverse P-type knuckle-bow, simple langets on obverse and reverse and curved quillon with cylindrical finial; grip covered in leather, with ridges formed by an underlayer of twine.
This sword is identified as a "U.S. Dragoon saber of German type" in the accession records. This identification is based on an illustration in Smithsonian Institution Bulletin No. 163 (p. 34).
