Buff-colored earthenware sugar bowl with wide, flaring rim and squat, rounded body; decorated with gold, green, red, and blue circular medallions on a clear-glazed band surrounding middle of bowl; brown glaze on rim, shoulder, and base, with incised vertical lines running from inside rim to edge of base; slightly domed cover with brown glaze, incised lines crossing at center, and applied handle.
According to the accession records, this sugar bowl belonged to Edward Voorhies of Gravesend, Kings County, New York, a great-uncle of the donor.
