stamped: center of arch: "PEAL/ 11941/ STEEL"
Steel arched-band spurs; cylindrical spurs fittted with a ball head with a spiked dial through its center; two round buttons at the band ends; leather boot strap and buckle attached to the buttons. Leather case conforming to the shape of the spurs with a pocket for each.

These spurs were worn by Philip Sawyer when he rode in Central Park. Mr. Sawyer was the father of the donor and one of the architects of the New-York Historical Society's Central Park West building.
