Metal spike mounted on wooden block and labeled with brass plaque reading "GRANITE STATE."

According to the accession records, the stake and wood block come from the U.S.S. Granite State, which served in the Civil War and was later stationed in Newport, R.I. It was later turned over to the N.Y. Naval reserve for use as their headquarters in the East River.
