Pair of 2nd lieutenant's shoulder straps; rectangular with red felt center and gold embroidered border; four metal hooks on reverse (one at each corner) for fastening.
Gallery Label: 
According to the accession records, these shoulder straps were worn by Joseph H. Bradley while serving as 2nd lieutenant in the 5th New York Volunteer Infantry ("Duryee's Zouaves") during the Civil War. Bradley held the rank of 2nd lieutenant from May to September, 1861.
