Description:
Rectangular shoulder strap with two gilded metal maple(?) leaves on black textile ground inside gilded metal border.
Gallery Label:
This shoulder strap is identified in the accession records as a "Civil War item" associated with the donor's father, Dr. Gabriel Grant (1826-1909), and said to designate the rank of major. Dr. Grant was Surgeon of the 2nd New Jersey Volunteers and later appointed Surgeon-in-Chief of Division.
