Description: 
Olive drab wool service cap with brown leather visor and chin strap; gilded metal insignia plate consisting of shield-breasted eagle below banner and starburst; buttons securing chin strap decorated with similar motif.

According to the accession records, this cap was worn by Major John H. Marsching, 2nd Division, A.E.F., U.S. Army, during World War I. Marsching's uniform coat, trousers and belt are also in the N-YHS Collection.
