"J. Gould" section of the Atlantic Cable, laid in 1881 and recovered in 1887, made up of cylindrical section of wire bunches secured with engraved brass mounts on either end.

This section of Atlantic Cable was laid May 29, 1881 and recovered August 19, 1887 at a depth of 116 fathoms. The engraved brass mounts were added to sections of cable (this one is numbered 8302) after its recovery and distributed by Siemens Brothers & Co. of London.
