This view, looking northward, shows the south end of the original New York State hospital located on this site. The hospital, which opened in 1831, accommodated sick and disabled seamen and passengers and later was managed by the Marine Society of New York. New York harbor is to the right. The locale is the vicinity of the present Bay Street near Vanderbilt Avenue, Stapleton, Staten Island.
