Description:
Vertical rectangular linen sampler with various colors of silk floss; poem centered at top two-thirds; Adam and Eve depicted on either side of tree in colonial dress with Adam holding the forbidden apple; inscription at bottom with "Worked by Phoebe Vanhouton Age 13 years- 1830"; prominent rose continuous border; cross and satin stitches.
