Cast and wrought silver presentation salver; circular tray with raised, molded sides and a repoussé chased foliate scroll rim; engraved in the center, "Presented/ to/ Charles W. Dayton,/ May 24th.., 1987,/ by the officers and employees of the/ New York Post Office in token of their/ love and esteem, and of his courtesy, efficency,/ justice and impartiality as Postmaster at/ New York, to which office he was appointed/ by President Cleveland June 5th.., 1893,/ and from which he resigned/ May 22d.., 1897." in script; three cast foliate scroll and paw feet applied to the base; makers' marks stamped on the base.
