Description:
Shaker rocking chair made of maple with mahogany stain; ladder back with slender horizontal bar joining tops of stiles and four slats below; trapezoidal rush seat; round legs with two plain, round stretchers in front and on either side, and one plain, round stretcher in back; rockers fitted into slot in bottom of each leg.

Chairmaking was a major industry industry of the Shakers, and the slat-back chair was one of the chief forms they produced.
