A native of Atlanta, Georgia, "Bobby" Jones graduated from the Georgia School of Technology in 1922, attended Harvard, then studied law at Emory University. He was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1928 and established a practice in Georgia. An avid golfer, he won the U.S. national amateur championship five times between 1924 and 1930, the U.S. national open championship in 1923, 1926, and 1929.
