Description: 
Silver baby rattle with four bells and spinning ball; round knob at top with loop; spinning ball with foliate cut-out design; cylindrical ring with bells attached to bottom; two large and two small bells; handle of bell has fragment of coral embedded in it, but coral handle is missing.

Children's rattles were often worn around their necks, suspended from ribbons or chains, to keep them from being damaged. Made of silver or gold, the rattles were fitted with a whistle at one end, a smooth piece of coral suitable to teething, and any number of bells to ring.
