Inscribed at lower center in brown ink: "Cherokee / 1820 Mr Martin"
In 1820 Baron and Barones Hyde de Neuville lived in Washington, and there is no evidence to suggest that they were anywhere near Cherokee country. "Mr. Martin" is not identified.
