Portable table-top electric sewing machine, Singer model 128-23; black with gold stencilled lettering and ornament; with foot pedal and lamp. Veneered wood case. Serial number JGO46456.
The 1952 portable sewing machine was owned by the donor's mother-in-law, Kathryn Vislocky Gallagher (1918-1985). By the time the donor met her in the mid-1960s, the sewing machine was a fixture in her house, where it was kept out and at the ready on a small table. The elder Mrs. Gallagher loved to purchase McCall's dress patterns as well as fabric and buttons from the many small stores on the Lower East Side.
Gift of Michael J. Gallagher and Mary Ann Dzupin Gallagher in memory of Kathryn Vislocky Gallagher
