Description: 
Silk covered straw plaited pocketbook covered on the outside with beadwork on linen ground; the pocketbook is in two parts, one which slides into the opening of the other to close; there are bands of floral beadwork border at both ends, one side has an image of an American flag with an inscription across one of the stripes, the other side has a floral design at the center.

This pocketbook belonged to L. B. Newman Esq., M.D., and was given as a remembrance keepsake from J. Cato, Curaçao, November 1844.
