Gold pocket watch with shield engraved on front of hunting case; round pendant knob and round bow; glass face; white enamel dial with black roman numeral hours and minute markings; hour and minute hands; second aperture at VI with Arabic numeral seconds and second hand; maker's inscription below XII; hallmarks on inside of front and rear of case; dedication engraved on movement casing.

This watch belonged to General R. C. Rutherford, the donor's father. It was presented to General Rutherford by his fellow officers during the Civil War. The manuscript testimonial presented with the watch is in the Historical Society's library.
