Description:
Drape-molded redware plate with serrated edge; obverse decorated with large slip-trailed inscription under lead glaze.
Gallery Label:
Simon Singer (d. 1894), an immigrant from Baden, Germany, worked in New York as a brickmaker before buying a pottery in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Redware potters seldom marked their wares and very rarely inscribed their name and trade prominently on the front.
