Description: 
Circular porcelain plate with gold band around rim, shield on brim with entwined initials "LH" inside, and American eagle encircled by 20 stars at center; center of circle with eagle painted in gray, brown, blue and red enamel, holding gold shield.
Gallery Label: 
This plate belonged to Lewis Heerman (1779-1833), a surgeon in the U.S. Navy. Heerman began as a surgeon's mate in 1802, was commissioned Surgeon of the U.S. Navy in 1804, and served during the War of 1812.
