"1982 / WITNESS / FOR A / USA & USSR / NUCLEAR WEAPONS / FREEZE.: A national campaign for a bi-lateral freeze on nuclear weapons development and testing began in 1980. Spurred by a United Nations special session on disarmament starting on June 12,1982, a million people rallied in New York City’s Central Park in support of a freeze. Over 100 organizations lent support to the mobilization.
