The Citizens Committee for New York City, established in 1975 by the late Senator Jacob Javits, helps more than 12,000 block and neighborhood associations, youth groups and other neighborhood organizations throughout the city to organize and stay organized, and to solve such problems as crime and drugs, inter-group tensions, threats to the environment, the alienation of youth, hunger and poverty.
