Pair of black leather child's shoes with wing-tip detail at cap toe; brown cotton laces; metal nails on underside of heels.

This pair of shoes belonged to Anna C. Liebenow (1901-1904), sister of the donor, Adella Liebenow Wotherspoon (1903-2004), the last survivor of the General Slocum steamer disaster. On June 15, 1904, fire broke out on the ship and 1,021 passengers perished within minutes. Anna's body was recovered in the East River several days after the disaster, and her shoes removed and kept as a memento by her sister.
