White cotton t-shirt printed in black with silhouette of skyline, inscribed "NYC/1965-1977-2003/BLACKOUT"
Gallery Label:
Just hours after the power had been restored in the nation's largest blackout, vendors across the city were already selling t-shirts commemorating the event. The blackout, which began at 4:10PM on Thursday August 14, 2003, immobilized much of the northeast. The t-shirt makes reference to New York's two other blackouts, in 1965 and 1977. In contrast to those events, the 2003 blackout was notable for the lack of chaos and unlawful behavior of city residents.
