Kittell, who was born in Columbia County, New York, was a landscape and portrait painter of the mid-19th century. From 1848 until his death, he maintained his home and studio in New York City. This drawing shows him seated at his easel with brush and palette in hand, in his studio at 96 Fifth Avenue.
