Frances Helene Beckwith of New York was the daughter of N. M. Beckwith, who was for many years the minister to France. In 1890 she was married to an Englishman, Francis Dudley Leigh, who became Baron Leigh after the death of his father in 1905. Lady Leigh did at Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire.
