Militia jacket

Wool; brass
Navy blue wool Highlander militia jacket (79th New York) with cutaway tails; red piping on the front openings, around the bottom of the tails, and the sleeves. The proper right front has nine brass buttons 2.20 cm (7/8 in) in diameter. There are two additional 2.20 cm buttons on the back of the jacket. The collar is trimmed with red wool patches and tan piping. A flap covered watch pocket is on the proper right front; and on the left is a tab for attaching a scabbard. The sleeves have a red wool decorative false cuff and three small brass buttons 1.50 cm (5/8 in) in diameter. The tails are lined with red wool and the jacket with brown chintz. The front and shoulders of the jacket are padded with a wool batting. The batting is machine quilted in rows 0.90 cm (3/8 to 1/2 inches) apart.
