Description: 
Bronze struck medal with obverse bearing nude male bust facing left with legend: "ADAM J. SLEMMER."; date below bust truncation, at center: "1861." Reverse depicts exterior wall of a fort with American flag atop; surrounding legend: "THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, NEW YORK, HONORS THE DEFENDERS OF FORT PICKENS/FAR OFF BUT FAITHFUL." Medal is set into black square leather case with dark green silk velvet and white ribbed silk interior and two brass closures.
