Reverse within laurel border legend: "THE REBEL STEAMER / MERRIMAC, / WITH / 12 GUNS, / DEFEATED BY THE / UNION STEAMER / MONITOR, / WITH / 2 GUNS, / IN HAMPTON Rds, MAR.9, 1862."
