Bronze struck medal with obverse show two ships battling at sea; legend: " "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND THEY ARE OURS"; in exergue.: " LAKE ERIE/ SEP. 10th 1813". Reverse shows oak wreath to left and laurel wreath to right around blank middle space topped with "TO"; legend: "BY RESOLUTION OF / THE / KENTUCKY / LEGISLATION / FEB.11th 1860"
