Description:
Bronze struck medal with obverse showing uniformed bust of Oliver Perry facing right with legend: "OLIVERUS HAZARD PERRY. PRO PATRIA VICIT/PRESENTED/ BY THE GOVERNMENT/OF PENNSYLVANIA." Reverse bears a blank space for writing enclosed within laurel wreath with "TO" inscribed inside; legend: "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY; AND THEY ARE OURS/ PERRY"; inscription below wreath: "IN TESTIMONY OF HIS/PATRIOTISM AND BRAVERY/IN THE NAVAL ACTION ON/LAKE ERIE/SEPTEMBER 10. 1818."
