The subject of this miniature was the daughter of Lewis and Helen Gansevoort (Magee) Edwards, who were married in 1877. The family lived in Manhattan until 1902 when they moved to Geneseo, Livingston County, New York. Miss Edwards was a member of the Colonial Dames of America.
