The subject was the third daughter of Albert Smith (1814-88) and Catherine (Goldthwaite) Smith (1824-88) of New York. Her father was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and operated a factory that made cavalry boots during the Civil War. Miss Smith died at her residence at 527 West 121st Street.
