Bronze struck medallion, with obverse showing nude bust of Zachary Taylor facing right with oak and laurel branches beneath; legend: "MAJOR GENERAL ZACHARY TAYLOR/RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS: MAY 9.1848." Reverse shows battle scene encircled by two serpents, with sprays of cactus and oak below; legend: "BUENA VISTA FEB. 22. & 23. 1847."
