Bronze struck medal with uniformed bust of Zachary Taylor facing right with legend: "MAJOR GENERAL ZACHARY TAYLOR." Reverse bears inscription surrounded by wreath comprised of serpent biting its own tail intertwined with laurel and palm branches: "RESOLUTION/OF/ CONGRESS/JULY 16th 1846./PALO ALTO/MAY 8th 1846./RESACA de la PALMA/MAY 9th 1846."
