Bronze struck medal with nude bust of Winfield Scott facing left with fifteen stars on each side; legend on a scroll above: "MAJOR GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT"; inscribed below bust: "RESOLUTION OF CONGRESS"; legend with date at lower center: "MARCH 9. 1848." Reverse shows vignettes of six battle scenes surrounding central view; battles are labelled: "VERA CRUZ," "CERRO GORDO," "CONTRERAS," SAN ANTONIO & CHURUBUSCO," "MOLINO DEL REY" and "CHAPULTEPEC"; central scene is labelled: "THE CITY OF MEXICO."
