Description: 
Metal struck replica of the orginal medal designed and distributed in Germany to commemorate the sinking of the passenger ship "Lusitania" by a German submarine on May 17th, 1915. The obverse of the medal depicts sinking ship with legend above: "KEINE BANNWARE" ("NO CONTRABAND"); inscription in exergue: "DER GROSSDAMPFER/LUSITANIA/DURCH EIN DEUTSCHES/TAUCHBOOT VERSENKT/15 MAY 1915" (THE CRUISE SHIP/LUSITANIA/SUNK BY/A GERMAN SUBMARINE/15 MAY 1915." Reverse shows figure of Death sitting in the ticket office labelled "CUNARD LINIE" and "FAHRKARTEN AUSGABE" ("CUNARD LINE" and "TICKET DISTRIBUTION"), at right, and distributing tickets to passengers waiting in line, at left; legend above: "GESCHAFT VBER ALLES" (BUSINESS ABOVE ALL). Medal is inset into square fitted cardboard case with cotton flannel interior.
